Welcome to Encounters with God

I’m Charles. I’m a Christian. I post weekly on Friday evening. My articles are about faith.

Having accepted Christ in the summer of 2021, at the age of 72, I am the classic late-in-life Christian (@LinLChristian). Looking back across the years leading up to that moment, I realized God had done a great work in my life. Over the course of many decades, with exquisite patience, he drew me toward him. Now I have a responsibility to share my testimony, to glorify him for his great goodness and mercy.

Testimony, I believe, is not mere assertion. It is a persuasive endeavor. Like a witness in a court trial, I do not expect you to believe God has been at work in my life without detailed evidence. That is what I hope to provide in this site.

If you’re a follower of Christ, I believe you’ll find this evidence compelling, but if you don’t, I urge you to challenge me. As a new Christian, I’m painfully aware of how much there is I don’t understand about Christian faith and Biblical witness. At this writing, I’m 74 years old, but I’m eager to learn.

If you’re not a Christian, I expect you to be more skeptical. One anecdote about someone else’s experience is not likely to make you a believer. I hope, though, that you’ll keep an open mind and not dismiss my testimony out of hand. I’m not afraid of disagreement, and I’ll try to answer questions respectfully.

As a lifelong educator, I see discussion as an opportunity for learning. I hope this site will provide many such opportunities.  I plan to keep key posts free to encourage the broadest possible discussion. Eventually I will provide a paid subscription option for longer, in-depth articles and expanded access to past posts. Thank you to all who visit, subscribe, and comment for supporting our shared learning.
